Cape Town: Shane Watson (47 off 38) and Brad Haddin (32 off 21) helped Sydney Sixers reach Champions League Twenty20 semifinals after registering comfortable five-wicket victory over Highveld Lions at Newlands in Cape Town.

Steven Smith also played a fine cameo as he scored run-a-ball 25 not out to take Sydney to a victory target of 138 with one over to spare.

Haddin resurrected the Sixers chase after losing three quick wickets, smacking three consecutive sixes in the 14th over to turn the momentum in Sydney's way.

Aaron Phangiso gave Sydney Sixers triple blows by removing Michael Lumb, Dominic Thornely and Shane Watson in quick succession.

Phangiso struck on the successive deliveries to remove Lumb and Thornely. In his next over, Phangiso got the big fish as he dismissed Shane Watson to leave Sydney tottering at 74/3 in 10.5 overs.

Lumb and Watson added 60-run opening stand in 8.3 overs to lay the foundation for Sydney.

Sydney's pace battery shared eight wickets between them as Mitchell Starc led the chart with three wickets while Josh Hazlewood, Shane Watson took two wickets apiece and Moises Henriques claimed one.

For Highveld Lions, Gulam Bodi led from the front as he notched up a 32-ball fifty. He made 61 off 44 to guide Lions to challenging total.

Bodi held the one end for Lions as wickets kept falling from the other end. Sydney pacers produced a clinical display of bowling as they reduced Lions to 91/4 in 13.3 overs.
