Injured Dhoni Out of Asia Cup

New Delhi: India captain MS Dhoni has been declared out of the upcoming Asia Cup in Bangladesh on account of a side strain. In Dhoni's absence, the team will be captained by Virat Kohli, while Dinesh Karthik will keep wicket.

Dhoni had sustained a Grade I strain to his left side during the second Test against New Zealand in Wellington. He has been advised to undergo rehabilitation for ten days. The Indian squad arrived in Mumbai on Thursday after a lackluster tour of New Zealand during which they failed to win a single match.

The 25-year-old Kohli had last led India in Zimbabwe, on a tour that Dhoni had chosen to skip. Kohli also led the side in a tri-series involving Sri Lanka in the West Indies after Dhoni was injured. India have won seven of their eight ODIs under Kohli.

India begin their Asia Cup campaign against hosts Bangladesh on February 26. Close on the heels of the Asia Cup comes the ICC World Twenty20, which also begins in Bangladesh on March 21.
