Murali Kartik Retires From All Form of Cricket

New Delhi: Former India left-arm spinner Murali Kartik announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Saturday. Kartik, whose international career spanned seven years (2000-2007), has played eight Tests and 37 one-day internationals for India.

"I have decided to hang up my boots from all official cricket, just so there is no confusion, all forms of cricket including first-Class and the IPL," Kartik said at a press conference in the capital.

"I think the time is right for me to take this course of action. It is very difficult to give any specific reason, however, this decision has been a difficult one for me. This game has given me everything in life but I think it's time to move on. I am totally at peace with my decision as I am aware that I still have a couple more years left in me and I am confident that I will be able to contribute to this game in a meaningful manner."

Kartik, 37, apart from playing for India, also had successful stints with Ranji Trophy team Railways and county sides Middlesex and Somerset. He, however, said that since he is under contract with his current IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, he will participate one final time in the 2014 Champions League.
