Zampa Six-for Vain Sunrisers Knocked Supergiants Out

Visakhapatnam: Adam Zampa claimed the second-best bowling figures in Indian Premier League history but was unable to prevent Sunrisers Hyderabad from sealing a tense four-run victory over Rising Pune Supergiants which put them top of the table.

Spinner Zampa took 6-19 - including three wickets in the final over - to restrict the Sunrisers to 137-8 in Visakhapatnam after David Warner's side had been going well on 96-2.

Zampa was brought back down to earth when he was out first ball from the final delivery of the match in a dramatic last over after captain MS Dhoni (30 from 20) had threatened to guide Pune to a victory which they really needed to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.

The prolific Warner went for only 11 after being given out caught behind off RP Singh so it was left for the in-form Shikhar Dhawan (33 off 27) and Kane Williamson (32 from 37) to set the platform.

Dhawan made an unbeaten 82 and 47 not out in his last two innings, but was finally dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin (1-16) after clubbing two sixes and as many fours.

Williamson also failed to go on as Zampa took centre stage with a magnificent spell in only his second IPL game, taking the important wickets of New Zealand captain Williamson and Yuvraj Singh (23) before striking three times in an incredible final over.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-20) denied Ajinkya Rahane (0) a third successive half-century, but Bailey (34 from 40) and Ashwin (29) - promoted to number four - steadied the ship.

Kumar thought he had Bailey caught behind but umpire Virender Sharma kept his finger down, however Pune lost their way and fell agonisingly short after Dhoni smashed a six but was also one of three wickets to fall in an eventful last over from Ashish Nehra (3-29).
