The ninth season of the Indian Premier League, abbreviated as Vivo IPL 2016, was the Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The tournament was played between 9 April 2016 and 29 May 2016.

The season have two new teams -- Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions, based in Puns and Rajkot, replacing the two franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, which were suspended for two seasons till 2017.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo was awarded the title sponsorship for the 2016 and 2017 seasons after PepsiCo terminating a five-year deal.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad were crowned the champions of VIVO IPL 2016 after they won the Final played against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. This was the maiden IPL title for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.
