KKR v RPS, 45th match - IPL 2016, Kolkata

Yusuf, Spinners Star in Crushing Knight Riders Win

Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders chased down 66-run target in just 5 overs to beat Pune by 8 wickets in a rain-hit match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday night.

Ashwin ought to have had Yusuf LBW for a first-ball duck, but the umpire ruled in the batsman’s favour.

That was all the luck Yusuf, and KKR, needed. Ashwin bowled a potentially game-changing over to start with, taking out Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa to reduce KKR to 8 for 2.

Uthappa was stumped off a wide ball by MS Dhoni off Ashwin for 4, and Gambhir was LBW for a first-ball duck. Yusuf ought to have suffered the same fate, but survived.

Earlier, KKR spinners dominated to reduce RPS to 103 for 6 in 17.4 overs before rain interrupted play. Piyush Chawla claimed 2 for 21 and bowled 13 dot balls while Sunil Narine, who returned after two matches, gave away a miserly 10 runs from 3.4 overs as Pune Supergiants struggled to break free.

Skipper MS Dhoni was in the midst of Pune’s terrible struggle as he crawled to eight runs from 22 balls. Pune were however looking good at 70 for 3 and when Dhoni walked in they were 74/4 in 10.3 overs but by the time the rain interrupted the proceedings their run-rate had slipped to less than six.
