Sri Lankan Openers make steady start in Chasing 268

Sri Lanka 267 (Dickwella 61, Mendis 53, Mathews 50, Patel 5-89) and 133 for 0 (Karunaratne 71*, Thirimanne 52*) need 135 runs to beat New Zealand 249 (Taylor 86, Dananjaya 5-80, Lakmal 4-29) and 285 (Watling 77, Embuldeniya 4-99)

Galle: Having got the 268-run target from New Zealand, Sri Lanka have started strongly as Sri Lanka have reached 133/0 at stumps on Day 4. Dimuth Karunaratne is unbeaten 71 and Lahiru Thirimanne 52*.

Earlier, New Zealand lower order have done well to add 90 runs to their overnight score.

From 124/6, they have managed to score 285 in the third innings setting a target of 268 for the hosts.

BJ Watling led the fightback registering the highest score by a Kiwi wicketkeeper-batsman in New Zealand.

Watling scored 77 runs from 173 deliveries. He got support from William Somerville who registered his highest First-Class score.

Somerville scored an unbeaten 40 from 118 deliveries. Trent Boult (26) and Ajaz Patel (14) made useful contributions extending the lead and keeping Sri Lankan bowlers at bay.

Lahiru Kumara broke eighth-wicket partnership getting the wicket of Watling.

Kumara got the wicket of Boult as well.

Dhananjaya de Silva ended the innings by trapping Ajaz Patel in front of the stumps.

Sri Lanka will have to pull off a record run chase at Galle as the highest successful run chase at the venue is 99.

If rain or bad light does not play spoilsport, the hosts have five sessions to chase down the target.
