Air India Blue-ITC Match Called-off, to be Played on Friday

Mohali: Unplayable ground conditions following a heavy downpour forced the abandonment of the opening tie between Air India-Blue and ITC without a single ball being bowled at the PCA ground in the BCCI Corporate Trophy tournament on Tuesday.

Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Joint Secretary G S Walia said the match had been re-scheduled for Friday.

Rains lashed the city in the morning after which curator Daljeet Singh and his team tried hard to make field at the PCA stadium playable at 1300 hours but in vain.

Match referee Rajinder Jadeja alongwith two umpires carried out the first inspection of the ground at 1430 hours -- the scheduled time for the start of the day-night affair.

The match officials inspected the ground twice more at 1700 hours and 1830 hours before calling it off.

"Match has been called off as the ground is not suitable to play," Jadeja said.

ITC will meet Indian Revenue at the same venue on Wednesday.
