Bopara Vows to Bounce Back From Ashes Axe

London: England batsman Ravi Bopara insists the pain of being dropped for the Ashes finale will help him return a better player.

Bopara averaged just 15 from seven innings against Australia and his place was taken by South Africa-born Jonathan Trott for the final Test at the Oval.

The Essex star had to endure the added agony of watching his replacement mark his Test debut with a century as England closed in on a series win over the Australians.

Although the 24-year-old was frustrated to lose his place, Bopara's confidence has not been affected and he hit a double century this week for his county against Surrey.

"I usually take things on the chin and get on with it," Bopara told Radio Five Live's Sportsweek. "I am not a massive guy for making too much of a fuss.

"I was surprised I went through seven innings without getting a massive score or a big score. I did feel as if there was a score around the corner.

"I think the mental side is the biggest step up. I will come back a better player.

"The score against Surey was my way of answering. I think when I got to 100 I said to myself I am not getting off this pitch until I come back with 200."
