Harbhajan, Yuvraj Ignore for Australia Tour

Mumbai: Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and all-rounder Yuvraj Singh have been left out of the Test squad for India's tour of Australia that was named by the selectors in Mumbai on Saturday.

The veteran of 98 Tests, who riled the Aussies no end during the 2007-08 tour Down Under, had been a talking point with many former Test cricketers advocating his inclusion given his experience.

Harbhajan was dropped for the Test series against the West Indies and he hasn't been inspiring on the domestic scene either. The feisty player though feels that he still has a lot to offer in international cricket.

The superb performances of off-spinner R Ashwin and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha in the ongoing series against the West Indies seem to have shut the door on Harbhajan.

Yuvraj, who wasn't considered for selection for the one-day series against the West Indies, has also been left out. Sources have indicated Yuvraj might undergo surgery for lung problem.

Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan will join the team subject to his match fitness. The pace spearhead will test his fitness in Mumbai's next Ranji match from November 29 against Orissa.

Ajinkya Rahane, who impressed with his batting in the ODI series against England has been picked as the third specialist opener.

The talented Rohit Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha have been named in the 17-member team. Saha has been named as the second wicket-keeper over Parthiv Patel, who will play against the West Indies in the one-dayers.

The Indian squad for 4-match Test series are:

  • MS Dhoni (capt & wk)
  • Virender Sehwag
  • Gautam Gambhir
  • Rahul Dravid
  • Sachin Tendulkar
  • VVS Laxman
