Taufel to Conduct Seminar For Indian Umpires

Mumbai: Top ICC Elite Panel umpire Simon Taufel of Australia is to be the major player in the August 6-12 Umpires Seminar to be organised in Bangalore by the Cricket Board.

All Ranji Trophy and National Panel umpires from India would be taking part in the seven-day seminar which is being conducted by experts from Cricket Australia which has tied up with the Indian board on this count, according to BCCI sources.

Also taking part in the seminar on behalf of CA would be umpires educator Dennis Burns, its Global Development Manager Ross Turner and Ian Lock.

This is the third year the seminar is happening after the BCCI's tie-up with Cricket Australia and "all the Indian umpires are happy", a national panel umpire who has attended the first two seminars said on Wednesday.

"Earlier it used to be 100 per cent emphasis only on the laws of the game. But with these guys the focus is not only on laws, which is only ten per cent, but on other things like physical and mental fitness, standing posture, diet, relaxation after a day on the field etc. It has been very useful", he said.

"Last year they also taught us on how to talk to media persons", he added.
