Western Australia Sign Mahmood for T20 Series

Sydney: England and Lancashire fast bowler Sajid Mahmood has joined Western Australia for the domestic Twenty20 "Big Bash" competition, team officials said on Tuesday.

Mahmood, 28, will replace Kemar Roach as WA's T20 contracted player after the West Indian paceman was unavailable because of domestic commitments in the Caribbean.

Mahmood, who has played four T20 internationals for England, is also a big-hitting lower-order batsman and an outstanding fielder.

"He is a genuine strike bowler who will shake up opposition batsmen, he is a capable batter who hits the ball a long way, and he is also great in the field, so he offers us the complete package," WA coach Mickey Arthur said.

The Big Bash series, involving all six Australian states, runs from December 30 to the February 5 final.
