Bangladesh v New Zealand, 2nd Test, Mirpur

Again Rain Washes Out Final Session

Dhaka: Shakib Al Hasan bagged all three wickets before rain set in to leave New Zealand at 107 for 3 on day 2 in second Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Bangladesh fought back with three New Zealand top-order wickets after failing to build a sizeable first-innings score and will try to make further inroads when play begins early once more at 9.00am tomorrow.

Williamson and Taylor were at the crease.

Shakib removed openers Fulton (14) and Rutherford (13) before lunch and he bagged his third wicket by removing Brendon McCullum (11) after lunch.

The tea break came 26 minutes before schedule as rain interrupted play.

Earlier, Neil Wagner completed a maiden five-wicket haul as New Zealand dismissed Bangladesh for 282 in their first innings before lunch.

Resuming on 228-5, Bangladesh added 54 runs to their overnight score as Wagner finished with 5-64.

Wagner struck early in overcast conditions, taking out Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim on 18, after he added just four runs to his overnight total.

Wagner also dismissed first Test centurion Sohag Gazi (14) and Rubel Hossain (4) to return figures of 5/64 and pay back selectors who favoured him to left-arm spinner Bruce Martin.

Play started a half hour early to make up for lost overs on the opening day, when rain forced umpires to suspend the last session. But after resuming at 228/5, Bangladesh lost their last five wickets for the addition of just 54 runs.

Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi took advantage of some turn and bounce in the pitch and returned 3/59, including the wickets of Nasir Hossain (19) -- to a ball that spun sharply -- and Abdur Razzak (13).

For Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal top-scored with 95, followed by Mominul Haque (47) and Marshall Ayub (41).
