Mohali: A bridging of generation gaps and disparate styles saw India consolidate with the bat on Day Two of the second Test before pressed home the advantage, leaving an under-pressure Australia trialling by 367 runs with six wickets in hand by stumps.

If the first day had been dominated by a vintage Sachin Tendulkar's staggering accomplishment, Saturday's effort was crafted by both the old and the new: Playing in his final series, Sourav Ganguly notched up his 16th Test ton, his first against the Aussies at home, in another statement of Sheer defiance. At the other end, stand in skipper MS Dhoni, the face of the present and future, flagged off a perfect day by upping the ante on a shirtfront of a track.

Ganguly 102 (225b, 8x4) and an aggressive skipper Dhoni 92 (124b, 8x4, 4x6) put on 109 for the seventh wicket as India closed at 469 in their first innings. Aussie at 102 for four and Hayden, Katich, Pointing and Clarke back in pavilion, India hold all the cards as of now.

Zaheer was again spectacular in trying conditions, snaring bunny Mathew Hayden off the third ball of the inning, the third time in a row. he hote on to shape in and surprisingly sluggish Hayden managed only a faint inside edge which rattled the stumps.Ponting dismissel against by Ishant and other two wickets took debutant Amit Mishra, while Clarke out in last over of the day.
