South Africa v New Zealand, 3rd Twenty20, Port Elizabeth

South Africa Take Series With Big Win

Port Elizabeth: Chasing 180, New Zealand managed only 146 for 9. Aaron Phangiso and Ryan McLaren picked up 3 wickets each, while Davids top scored for South Africa with 68. Proteas won the series 2-1 against New Zealand at St. George's Park on Wednesday

The tourists were never in the chase after Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum got out. Franklin was probably their last hope but even he did not inspire any confidence.

The Proteas fielded like tigers and their catching was of the highest standard.

Henry Davids declare man of the match.

Earlier, South Africa recovered from the early loss of captain Faf du Plessis to total 179 for 6.

The South African skipper du Plessis fell for 1 in the second over and Quinton de Kock was dismissed for 2 in the fifth to leave the Proteas on 26 for 2 with impressive newcomer Mitchell McClenaghan having struck twice.

Opener Henry Davids (68) then combined in a partnership of 89 with Justin Ontong, who marked his recall with a counterattacking 48 from 30 balls with three sixes to revive the Proteas after the home team won the toss and opted to bat.

McClenaghan returned 2-24 and Doug Bracewell 2-35, but South Africa's recovery set the visitors a challenging total to win the three-game series.
