Sunrisers Clinch a Painfully Frustrating Game

New Delhi: The Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the Delhi Daredevils by an eight-wicket margin in a rain-curtailed match at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium to bag two invaluable points on Saturday.

After DD posted 143 for seven in 20 overs, inclement weather impacted SRH’s target a few times. After a handful of interruptions, the Hyderabad franchise was set a target of 43 in five overs, which they scaled with four balls to spare.

Earlier, SRH won the toss and asked DD to take first strike. Dale Steyn vindicated his skipper’s decision by picking up an early wicket; the pacer got rid of Quinton de Kock (7) in the third over. However, Kevin Pietersen, who promoted himself up the order, was undeterred as he kept going after the SRH bowlers. During his 19-ball cameo, the DD captain struck four fours and two maximums and took DD past the 50-run mark along with Mayank Agarwal.

However, with the score on 54, DD lost Pietersen (35) off the bowling of Amit Mishra. And 19 runs later, the Sunrisers leggie even got rid of Agarwal (25), leaving the Daredevils on 73 for three in 13.1 overs.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla then joined Dinesh Karthik, and the duo took DD past the 100-run mark. However, with the scorecard reading 103 for three in 13.1 overs, rain interrupted the game for about an hour. But when play resumed, both batsmen picked up where they had left prior to the unscheduled break.

The pair added another 25 runs, before Karthik (39) got out in the 17th over; Steyn took an excellent catch near the long-off fence off the bowling of Moses Henriques to effect the dismissal. And later in that over, Shukla (22) also departed.

This brought JP Duminy and Kedar Jadhav together. But the middle-order duo – that has come through for the Daredevils on multiple occasions this season – did not click today as Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Duminy (4) in the 19th over. And finally, Steyn got rid of Jadhav (5) off the last ball of the innings to restrict DD to 143 for seven in their 20 overs.

But rain played spoilsport once again, resulting in a revised target of 117 off 15 overs for SRH. But with SRH on 11 for no loss in 1.1 overs, there was another rain interruption. The target was then revised to 97 off 12 overs. Siddharth Kaul then dismissed Shikhar Dhawan (4), before play was stopped yet again after the completion of the second over with SRH on 17 for one. After the players took to the field again, the visitors’ revised target was 43 off five overs.

However, SRH lost Aaron Finch (4) in the fourth over off the bowling of Rahul Shukla. Ojha then joined Warner with SRH needing 18 off 10 balls.

Thanks to a big hit by the wicketkeeper-batsman off the last ball of the fourth over, the run-chase equation came down to six off six balls.

Another maximum by Ojha took his team over the line with eight wickets in hand and four balls to spare.

Earlier, unchanged Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and have opted to field.

Sunrisers are unchanged, but Daredevils have made three changes -- they have dropped seamer Wayne Parnell, opener Murali Vijay and left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, and replaced them with legspinner Imran Tahir, batsman Mayank Agarwal and seamer Rahul Shukla.
