Warner Helps Sunrisers Stay Alive

Ranchi: David Warner's 45-ball 90 and Shikhar Dhawan's unbeaten 64 helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to a 6-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi on Thursday.

SRH move to 5th position, remained in contention for a spot in the play-offs.

David Warner (90 off 45 balls) may have missed out on a well-deserved century, but he certainly helped his team’s cause as they try to grab the last available Playoffs spot in Pepsi IPL 2014.

Thanks to the left-handed opener’s heroics, Sunrisers Hyderabad made easy work of Chennai Super Kings’ 185-run total. Also aided by Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten half-century, the visitors romped home by six wickets with two balls to spare.

Earlier, half-centuries from David Hussey and Mahendra Singh Dhoni propelled Chennai Super Kings to 185 for 3.

The two shared a quickfire unbeaten 108-run stand as CSK scored 85 runs in the final six overs. The highlight of their stand was the final over of the innings in which Dhoni hammered Dale Steyn for 24 runs, en route reaching his first fifty of this season.

Hussey and Dhoni gathered 45 from the final three overs as the former reached his first half-century of the season in 33 balls with the help of two sixes and five fours. Dhoni, on the other hand, hit four sixes and two fours.

After an unchanged SRH opted to bowl, CSK came out to bat with a new opening combination of Dwayne Smith and Faf du Plessis. The duo were off to a flying start courtesy three fours each in the first two overs.

Faf du Plessis was looking at ease at the opening position, he was run out against the run of play as a straight push drive from Smith ricocheted off Karn Sharma's fingers and hit the stumps at the non-striker's end and the South African was short of his ground.

CSK were two down with two new batsmen at the crease.

Suresh Raina was joined by David Hussey and the two started to rotate the strike with singles as Smith's earlier onslaught had already boosted the innings. After a quite 12 deliveries, Raina (4) tried to up the ante and he took the aerial route against Sharma but found Aaron Finch, running in from long-off.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and have opted to field.

Sunrisers unchanged, while CSK have three changes -- Brendon McCullum, Samuel Badree and Ben Hilfenhaus rested, David Hussey, Pawan Negi come in
