Pakistan Climb to Third Spot in Test Rankings

Abu Dhabi: Following their biggest ever win in Test history, in terms of runs, Pakistan have climbed to the third spot in the latest ICC Test Team Rankings on Monday.

Pakistan registered a 356-run win in the Abu Dhabi Test to record their first series win over Australia in 20 years.

Pakistan, ranked sixth before, leapfrogged England, Sri Lanka and India into the third spot after gaining seven ratings points, the ICC said in a release on Monday. The last time Pakistan were ranked as high was in 2007 when they defeated South Africa 2-1 at home.

On the other hand, Michael Clarke-led Australia stay on No. 2 but the series whitewash has increased their gap with top-ranked South Africa.

Prior to the start of the two-Test series, Australia were in with a chance to claim the top spot provided they win 2-0. A 1-0 win would have placed them on equal ratings points with the Proteas.

Pakistan won the first Test in Dubai by 221 runs and followed that with another comprehensive win in the second.

They will next face New Zealand in a three-Test series, which starts from 9 November in Abu Dhabi, while Australia host India in a four-Test series in December.
