Bangladesh v Zimbabwe, 3rd Test, Chittagong

Tamim, Kayes Tons Put Bangladesh on Top

Chittagong: Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes scored centuries in a record opening stand and led Bangladesh to a commanding 303 for 2 against Zimbabwe on the first day of the third Test on Wednesday.

Kayes struck a career-best 130 while Iqbal made 109. Their stand of 224 surpassed Bangladesh's previous best opening of 185 against England at Lord's in 2010.

On an unforgiving pitch, Zimbabwe went wicketless in the first two sessions before the part-time bowlers helped them claim two wickets in the last session.

Mominul Haque was unbeaten on 46, and Mahmudullah on 5 at stumps. Hamilton Masakadza returned 1 for 3, while Sikandar Raza took 1 for 74.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat.

Bangladesh have drafted in opener Imrul Kayes in place of the dropped Shamsur Rahman and rested Shahadat Hossain to make way for Shafiul Islam.

Quick bowler Shingi Masakadza and Richmond Mutumbami have replaced Tendai Chatara and Malcolm Waller, who was reported for a suspect action in the previous Test.
