Kings XI Punjab were off to a strong start, thanks to some hard-hitting by opening duo Murali Vijay and Manan Vohra at the start of the innings. Trent Boult, who made his first appearance since SRH’s match against CSK on May 2, was smashed for 16 runs in the second over of the Punjab innings by Vijay, including a six and two fours.

The hitting continued for the next few overs, before Vijay mistimed a Bipul Sharma delivery and was caught by Shikhar Dhawan at extra cover. KXIP lost their first wicket with 42 on board, though they were yet to lose hope due to talented batting lineup.

Five runs were added to the KXIP total, before Bipul struck another blow on the visitors, this time removing Vohra for a 15-ball 20.

Glenn Maxwell was next to arrive at the crease with a struggling form. The ‘Big Show’, as he is popularly known, struck his first six off the fifth ball that he faced, Maxwell’s innings would be cut-short after six deliveries though, as he edged a Boult delivery to wicketkeeper Naman Ojha.

Earlier, David Warner scores 51-ball 81, during which he took ownership of the Purple Cap for most runs (504) in the season.

Warner was aggressive from the offset, cracking two fours and a six from the second over bowled by Anureet Singh, and contributed 30 to an opening stand of 56. Glenn Maxwell struck first ball, getting another opener Shikhar Dhawan stumped for 24.

Warner's completes his fifty in 36-ball, raised with a swatted six off Axar Patel, the second to him during the 13th over. But moments later, Moises Henriques (28) heaved Gurkeerat Mann to deep midwicket.

Maxwell's return to the attack brought out consecutive sixes and a four from Eoin Morgan.
