Atapattu Resigns as Sri Lanka Head Coach After Losing Tests

Colombo: Marvan Atapattu has resigned from the position of Sri Lanka's cricket team coach following a 1-2 defeat against India in the just concluded home series.

The 44-year-old was appointed to this position in October last year and had previously worked as Sri Lanka's batting coach from 2011.

Sri Lanka claimed their first Test series victory in England in May/June 2014 under the tutelage of Atapattu.

His resignation came two days after India registered their first Test series win on Sri Lankan soil in 22 years after defeating the hosts by 117 runs on the fifth day of the decisive third and final match in Colombo.
