Sri Lanka v India, only T20, Colombo

Vandersay, Shanaka selected for India T20I

Colombo: Sri Lanka has named a 15-member squad for the one-off Twenty20 International against India on Wednesday.

There were six new inclusions, but the make-up of the side was similar to the One-Day International squad.

Jeffrey Vandersay, the leg-spinner, and Dasun Shanaka, the all-rounder, are among the new faces in the Upul Tharanga-led squad. Vandersay, who has not been in the side since the World T20 last year, has found favour ahead of even Lakshan Sandakan, the left-arm spinner.

Isuru Udana, Seekkuge Prasanna, Suranga Lakmal and Vikum Sanjaya are the other new entrants.

Sri Lanka squad for one-off T20I: Upul Tharanga (capt), Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Dilshan Munaweera, Dasun Shanaka, Milinda Siriwardana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya, Jeffrey Vandersay, Isuru Udana, Seekkuge Prasanna, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Suranga Lakmal, Vikum Sanjaya.

Kusal Mendis, who was rested for the fifth and final ODI against India, was expectedly left out of the squad.

This will also be Upul Tharanga’s first stint as the skipper of the side in the shortest format of the game after Angelo Mathews’s resignation in July.

This is Sri Lanka’s last chance to notch a win against India after losing the Test series 3-0. It then was swept 5-0 in the ODIs with the latest loss, a six-wicket defeat, coming on Sunday at the R Premasada stadium in Colombo.
