Injured de Villiers out of first three ODIs

Durban: In a huge blow to hosts South Africa, its star batsman AB de Villiers has been ruled out of the first three ODIs against India after facing finger injury.

According to reports, De Villiers sustained the injury to his right index finger during the third Test match against India and will require up to two weeks to make a full recovery.

The CSA medical team is hopeful that De Villiers will recover in time for the fourth Pink ODI at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Saturday, February 10th.

The selectors have also opted not to name a replacement of De Villiers.

For India, this news will come as a major boost as de Villiers boasts an impressive record against them.

With a record of 6 hundreds and 5 half-centuries against India, De Villiers has scored 1295 runs in 29 innings and averages a healthy 51.80 with a strike rate of 111.44.

The first match of the series will take place at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Thursday.

South Africa revised ODI squad: Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Morne Morkel, Chris Morris, Lungisani Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Khayelihle Zondo
