India fightback after Williamson captain knock

New Zealand 216 for 5 (Williamson 89, Taylor 44, Sharma 3-31) lead India 165 (Rahane 46, Jamieson 4-39, Southee 4-49) by 51 runs

Wellington: New Zealand have taken the lead on Day 2 of the 1st Test between India and New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday.

Kiwis dominated India with the bat despite early wicket of Tom Latham.

Ross Taylor was dismissed by Ishant Sharma, for 44 in his 100th Test, but not before the Kiwis had gotten into the lead.

Kane Williamson looked in sublime touch but was ensnared by Mohammed Shami for 89.

Earlier, India were all out for 165 within one hour on the morning of Day 2.

Rishabh Pant was run out for 19 soon after he had hit the first six of the match.

Ravichandran Ashwin was bowled for a first ball duck by a Tim Southee outswinger in the very same over, leaving India's tail exposed within 4 overs of the day.

Ajinkya Rahane looked to give charge but was caught behind against the run of play for 46.

Mohammed Shami's 20-ball 21 gave some entertainment at the end of the innings, but Tim Southee (4/49) and Kylie Jamieson (4/39) ensured India's collapse would not draw out too long.

Ishant Sharma picked up the wickets of the Kiwi openers in the afternoon session but little else went India's way.

Ishant picked up three wickets for India.
