Akram Likely to Become Knight Riders Coach

New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders management, searching a coach for their IPL franchise, now targets former Pakistan skipper and seamer Wasim Akram.

According to Times Now news channel, Akram confirmed that he has been approached by the Kolkata Knight Riders management for coach's job.

Akram also said that he got a call from KKR principal owner Shah Rukh Khan for the interview which he will give by the end of this week.

Sources also revealed that the good rapport between Akram and KKR captain Sourav Ganguly may well seal the deal for him.

Earlier on Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders management interviewed three former cricketers for coach's post.

Ganguly joined by Shah Rukh Khan and co-owner Jay Mehta in Mumbai had a session with former Australia batsman Michael Bevan, former England all-rounder Dermot Reeve and former India batsman W V Raman. Lalchand Rajput and Ashok Malhotra had already given their presentations on Saturday.

The Kolkata franchise, which sacked Australian World Cup winning coach John Buchanan after a disastrous last place finish in the second edition of the IPL earlier this year, is tight-lipped about the proceedings.

The KKR team was looking for a blend of Indian and foreign coaching panel. The names of former England coach Duncan Fletcher and former India coach John Wright, who is expected in the country next week, are also in the running.
