Bracken Wants to Shine for NSW in CL

Melbourne: Ignored by his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore for the Champions League, Australian Nathan Bracken is determined to prove his worth by shining for his state New South Wales in the Twenty20 event.

"I haven't really played for Bangalore, I put my hand up and was hoping to get picked. It didn't work out so I get to go and play for NSW and that's the benefit I've got, that NSW went through and qualified and you get two bites at the cherry," Bracken said.

"There's probably been an advantage with a few things about whether myself or (opener) David Warner would play for our franchises," he said as Delhi Daredevils also ignored Warner for the cash-awash event.

"Fortunately, for NSW we missed out on the franchises but we still get to play in the competition and we're there representing our state, which is what we signed up to do, so it's about going out and performing well and hopefully proving to our IPL franchises that they should have chucked us in there," the Aussie was quoted as saying by the 'Sydney Morning Herald'.

Bracken felt that his omission had a lot to do with money matters at his franchise's part.

"It probably came down to a lot of the owners looking at the amount of money that they've got to shell out for players," Bracken said.

"You look at Delhi, they were looking to shell out $1 million to keep six players on their books, there were five of them that were a chance of playing that were in other teams.

"You look at that on top of buying the franchises for in excess of $100 million, plus paying the players' salaries, it's a lot of money to put around," he said.

Only Victorian paceman Dirk Nannes was selected by Delhi Daredevils, who compensated the Bushrangers with $200,000 for securing his service for the three-week tournament with prize money of $6 million.
