Cricket World Cup Committee to Meet on Tuesday

Karachi: PCB chairman said that the four co-hosts of the 2011 World Cup - Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - will discuss the modus operandi for successful World Cup preparations.

Butt said that he expects that, following the meeting, the uncertainty affecting World Cup preparations due to the strained Indo-Pak relations will come to an end.

"We have to discuss the modus operand and speed up things as we are one year behind schedule," he said.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) last year instructed the host nations to accelerate preparations.

The fate of the quadrennial spectacle is in jeopardy because of the prevailing tensions between Pakistan and India over last November's terror attacks in Mumbai and also because of security apprehensions among several leading cricketing nations about traveling to this region.

So far, the South Asian hosts of the World Cup are yet to begin preparations for the successful hosting of the tournament. However, it is expected that preparations will begin at full throttle following meeting in the Indian capital.

Butt said that Lahore is likely to host the next World Cup Organizing Committee meeting followed by similar meetings in Dhaka and Colombo later this year.

The PCB chief said that he doesn't think that the tensions between Pakistan and India will pose a problem for the World Cup officials who will be based in a secretariat in Lahore.
