England v West Indies, Group B, World Cup 2011, Chennai

England Elect to Bat Against West Indies

Chennai: England skipper Andrew Strauss won the toss and decided to bat against West Indies in their must-win World Cup Group B match at the M Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday.

England made three changes bringing in Chris Tremlett, Luke Wright and James Tredwell for James Anderson, Paul Collingwood and Ajmal Shahzad.

West Indies also effected a couple of changes with Chris Gayle replacing Shivnarine Chanderpaul and leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo making his debut in one-day internationals in place of Nikita Miller.

England head into their final Group B match knowing defeat will send them crashing out of the World Cup.

Even victory may not be enough for Strauss's men to go through to the knockout stages, with England having to rely on other results going their way.

A see-saw tournament for England has seen them lose to Ireland and Bangladesh yet tie with India and beat a highly-fancied South Africa.

The West Indies have two big-hitting batsmen in opener Chris Gayle and the in-form Kieron Pollard who can change the momentum of a match in a short space of time.

The good news for the West Indies is that either a win against England or India will see them into the quarterfinals and even two defeats may not be enough to end their World Cup.
