Zimbabwe A Team Tri-Series

Ferguson Take Australia A into Final

Harare: Australia A were tested for the first time in the tournament, but an unbeaten half-century from Callum Ferguson gave them a four-wicket win and secured their place in the final of the tri-series .

After bowling the hosts out for 159, the Aussies battled to 6-162 with Callum Ferguson (unbeaten 57) guiding them to their third win in as many games.

Left-arm paceman Mitchell Starc (3-34) and off-spinner Nathan Lyon (3-38) had earlier put Australia A in a match-winning position with the ball.

They meet South Africa A on Tuesday night, but can't give up a top-two spot as the hosts are yet to register a point.

Zimbabwe XI elected to bat after winning the toss but captain and opener Brendan Taylor only lasted until the second over when he was trapped in front by Starc.

Hamilton Masakadza was the next to go, run out by Lyon, to leave the hosts struggling at 2-10 after five overs.

Opener Vusi Sibanda (31) added 35 with wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva (45) before John Hastings (1-27) had him caught behind by Tim Paine.

Wickets fell at regular intervals from then on with no Zimbabwe XI batsman surpassing Chakabva's 45.

Lyon took the scalps of Craig Ervine (14) and Elton Chigumbura (15) after both had made starts, while Steve O'Keefe (1-32) took a return catch off Forster Mutizwa (14).

When Trent Copeland (1-3) had Keegan Meth (7) caught by Aaron Finch, Zimbabwe XI were all out with 10 balls remaining in their innings.

Australia A made a strong start to their chase before losing their first wicket when David Warner (3) was caught by Taylor off the bowling of Prosper Utseya (3-27) with the score on 45.

It meant Finch (47) had done almost all of the scoring until he too departed five overs later.

Paine (0) was run out by Utseya having only faced one ball and O'Keefe (5) was bowled by the same man to leave Australia A struggling at 4-67 after 20 overs.

Ferguson would play the vital anchoring role with Hastings (19) and Starc (18) providing important support.

The South Australian hit four fours and a six in his 69-ball knock, playing sensibly as the last of the top order batsmen.

When Starc fell the Aussies still needed 17 to win, but Copeland (9 not out) helped Ferguson see out the runs with 58 balls to spare.

The final of the tri-series will be played on Friday night.
