Harbhajan All-round Shows Help in Mumbai Victory

Mumbai: Harbhajan Singh scored 18-ball 49 and later chipped in three wickets as Mumbai Indians beat Deccan Chargers by 41 runs to register their fifth consecutive victory in the Indian Premier League at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

Harbhajan Singh chipped in Jaskaran Singh to take his third wicket.

Deccan Chargers lost their sixth wicket in Venugopal Rao who was dismissed by Kieron Pollard. The West Indian bowled a slower delivery to which Venugopal dragged it straight to the fielder at deep square and gave a catch to Ryan McLaren.

Harbhajan Singh took his second wicket of the match when he caught Tirumalsetti Suman off his own bowling. Suman picked a full toss and hit straight back to give a simple catch to Harbhajan.

Lasith Malinga sent two Deccan batsmen to pavillion in quick succession.

First Malinga's slower ball did the trick as Monish Mishra mistimed and gave a simple catch to Kieron Pollard who took it comfortably.

Immediately after that, Malinga scalped dangerous Andrew Symonds. The Australian slashed hard to make a big impact, whereas the ball flies to the third man area where Dwayne Bravo caught it.

Zaheer Khan chipped in Herschelle Gibbs who was caught by Kieron Pollard at cover point.

Harbhajan Singh provided the first breakthrough to Mumbai when he scalped host Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist.

Gilchrist picked a dusra from Harbhajan and edged the ball to the slip where Tendulkar took a one hand stunner just few inches from the ground.

Earlier, riding on Sachin Tendulkar's fifty and a late charge from Harbhajan Singh, Mumbai Indians set 173-run target for Deccan Chargers in the IPL encounter.

Mumbai Indians were crumbling after losing Sachin Tendulkar in the middle. Tendulkar was caught by Adam Gilchrist off RP Singh.

However, Harbhajan Singh came into bat and changed the course of the game. He batted aggressively to help Mumbai set a defendable target.

Bhajji made a quick-fire 18-ball 49 but missed a half-century by one run as he missed to score any run in the last ball of the innings.

While Mumbai were losing wickets regularly, Sachin Tendulkar held nerves to slam his 7th IPL fifty in the encounter. He made a responsible 43-ball 55.

RP Singh scalped Dwayne Bravo when the West Indian was caught by Andrew Symonds and then chipped in Saurabh Tiwary.

This was not enough as Pragyan Ojha came into the scene and dismissed Ambati Rayudu. Rayudu was beaten in flight as he stepped out and missed the ball completely while the rest was done behind the wicket by Adam Gilchrist.

Meanwhile Tendulkar got a life as the master batsman's catch was missed. While Symonds was bowling Sachin's catch was dropped by Gilchrist.

The visitors Deccan wrecked the Mumbai innings in regular interval as Jaskaran Singh scalped his second wicket of the match when Kieron Pollard was caught by Suman.

After the early fall of opener Shikhar Dhawan, skipper Sachin Tendulkar and Dwayne Bravo steadied the Mumbai Indians innings in the IPL encounter against Deccan Chargers.

Early in the innings Jaskaran Singh provided the first break through to the Chargers when he struck in the fourth over removing opener Shikhar Dhawan.

Earlier, Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist won the toss and opted to bowl against Mumbai Indians in the at the D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
