Kenya Elect to Bat Against New Zealand

Chennai: Kenya captain Jimmy Kamande won the toss and decided to bat against New Zealand in the second World Cup match at Chennai on Sunday.

Daniel Vettori and his teammates have been whitewashed by Bangladesh and India before they lost a home series to Pakistan to complete their poor build-up for the World Cup.

The series of setbacks has prompted the board to appoint ex-captain John Wright as the new coach while former South African paceman Allan Donald has been working with the bowlers to help them fine-tune their craft.

"We acknowledge we lost a lot of games and there has been some disappointing performances, particularly in the subcontinent," a frank Vettori said.

"But the World Cup is a fresh start, If we play well on Sunday the guys can turn around their confidence pretty quickly."

Kenya, meanwhile, will do whatever they can to pull off an upset at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

"Nobody should take the associate teams lightly. At the end of the day, the result will show. We just need to go out and express ourselves," their skipper Jimmy Kamande said.

New Zealand spinner Nathan McCullum has rejoined the squad after recovering from high fever but the team management has not taken a call yet whether to play him on Sunday.
