Aberdeen: Scotland defeated the Netherlands by 15 runs on Tuesday in the first of their two-match one-day international series in Aberdeen.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Scotland reached 7-255 from their 50 overs thanks in large part to a knock of 64 from opener Kyle Coetzer.
In reply, the Netherlands were dismissed for 240 from 49 overs, with off-spinner Majid Haq the best of the Scotland bowlers, taking 4-33 from his 10 overs.
Scotland made a great start to their inning with Coetzer and Fraser Watts combining for an opening stand of 86 before Peter Borren dismissed the latter for 33.
Callum MacLeod performed well at number three, chipping in with 35 off 41 balls to guide the hosts to 1-142 when Tom Heggelman struck to dismiss Coetzer, after he picked out Neil Kruger at cover.
The Scots failed to capitalise fully on their enterprising start, with Macleod becoming Heggelman's second scalp just six runs later and 1-142 became 5-180 as the bowlers got on top.
Preston Mommsen scored 34 and Richie Berrington added 29 to keep the scoreboard ticking over, and a quick-fire 20 off nine balls from tailender Gordon Drummond helped the Scots pass 250.
Borren and Heggelman were the best of the Dutch bowlers with three wickets apiece, with off-spinner Pieter Seelaar taking the other.
In reply, the tourists made a shaky start to their knock with Wesley Barresi out for just seven, but they soon steadied through Kruger (34) and Alexei Kervezee (49) to move to 1-79 before Kruger was bowled by Coetzer.
Haq removed Kervezee just one run short of what would have been a deserved 50, but Tom Cooper kept the scoreboard ticking over with a patient 75.
Cooper's problem was holding onto his partners, with Haq removing Michael Swart (13) and Tom de Grooth (0) cheaply and when he claimed his fourth wicket by trapping Heggelman (1) lbw, the Netherlands were in deep trouble at 8-232.
Despite the best efforts of Cooper, he eventually had his stumps rearranged by Josh Davey leaving his side 15 runs short of victory.
Haq's four wickets led the Scots, while Davey's 3-27 from eight overs made him their next best contributor.
