Pak Have Put Behind Australia Tour Controversies - Saeed

Karachi: Pakistan cricket team has put behind all controversies related to the Australian tour and would look to defend their title in West Indies during the World Twenty20, said team manager Yawar Saeed.

"Whatever happened on the Australian tour is now history and the players have definitely turned over a new leaf," Yawar said on the eve of the team's departure for the Caribbean where they will defend their World title.

Yawar also took a dig at some of the senior players who were recently banned or fined by the board for their alleged indiscipline on recent tours stating the players who were creating disharmony in the team had been disciplined.

"And those who are in the team I think have learnt their lessons and there is no disharmony in the team," he added.

The long serving Pakistan manager had also made it clear to the players that they had to remain within strict boundaries of discipline.

"The players know their boundaries and they know they can't cross it now, if any player does indulge in indiscipline no time will be wasted taking action against him," Yawar said.

The PCB last month imposed bans on former captains, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Malik and also all-rounder Rana Naved besides fining Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal heavily.

The hard actions were taken on basis of an inquiry into the poor performances of the national team in Australia and into reports of infighting on the tour.

Yawar, who has been brought back as manager of the team by PCB chairman Ejaz Butt said during the training camp for the World Cup he had impressed upon the players that the authorities were now no longer willing to tolerate indiscretion or indiscipline by anyone.

"The players know they will be penalized for any violations of the code of conduct or team conduct so they are also approaching things with a different attitude and perspective," he said.

Yawar also appreciated the role of the new coach, Waqar Younis and captain Shahid Afridi in introducing a new culture in the team and impressing upon the need for harmony and unity among the players.

"I am pretty confident that the players themselves realize that they can do well in the World Cup if they back each other. I just hope the team returns from this tour without creating any unnecessary controversies," he said.
