Pak Recall Abdul Rehman for Twenty20 World Cup

Karachi: Holders Pakistan drafted left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman into their squad on Monday for the Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean that starts next week.

On Sunday, chief selector Mohsin Khan said fast bowler Mohammad Sami and rookie paceman Mohammad Irfan had been recommended as replacements for the injured Umar Gul and Yasir Arafat.

However, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt asked the selectors to pick Rehman instead of Irfan.

"ICC (International Cricket Council) tournament rules state clearly a team can only take a replacement for an injured player from its list of 30 probables," Butt said. "Since Irfan was not in the 30 he could not be included."

Rehman, 30, who last played for his country in a one-day international in November 2007, said he was in good form.

"Normally in T20 cricket no role is seen for a left-arm spinner," he told Reuters.

"But I am in supreme form and doing well in domestic cricket. If I get a chance I will make my mark."
