Pakistan Players May Play in IPL-3

New Delhi/Karachi: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday cleared visas for all four Pakistan cricketers needed to participate in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2010. Kamran Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul will now be free to take part in the third edition of the IPL.

IPL sources say they will discuss on December 17 whether these players are eligible to participate in the third season of the cash-rich league.

Earlier, Lalit Modi, the commissioner of IPL , had ruled out the participation of Pakistan players after they failed to obtain visas by December 7, the deadline set by the organisers.

Pakistan players looked to have missed out on the upcoming edition of the lucrative league because the visa deadline had passed while their applications were still being processed.

According to an official statement on Wednesday, the Indian High Commission was approached by the PCB for issuance of visa to only one player Sohail Tanvir while three other players submitted visa applications to the High Commission of India in Wellington.

The High Commission said in a media release it was never advised about any deadlines for issuing visas to Pakistan players, either by the IPL organising committee or the PCB.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt said that deadline may be put back yet again, after two previous extensions.
