Passi Seal Win for India; Despite Lake Ton

Townsville: Kamal Passi's all-round show was one of the highlights of India's win, he smashed 24 off just 5 balls and took six Zimbabwian wickets as India kept its ICC U19 Cricket World Cup hopes alive with a 63-run win over Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

India made 261 for six in its 50 overs at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville, with openers Unmukt Chand (78) and Prashant Chopra (57) setting the platform before Passi provided some late fireworks with the bat.

And his superb day continued as he bagged figures of six for 23 from 8.1 overs, with Zimbabwe bowled out for 198 in the 45th over despite Malcolm Lake (118) playing a terrific innings.

Chasing 262 to win, Zimbabwe made a disastrous start as Passi had Kevin Kasuza (3) caught behind in the fourth over.

Luke Masasire (6) was next to go when Passi clean bowled him, while the paceman also had Matthew Bentley (8) caught behind and Ryan Burl (9) caught at square leg in a superb opening spell.

Reeling at 30 for four, Lake set about restoring some Zimbabwean pride and his 87-run stand with Luke Jongwe (27) kept his side's faint hopes of victory alive.

But Jongwe was run-out after being sent back by Lake while Campbell Light (one) was trapped lbw just two overs later.

Lake opened up in the batting powerplay towards the end of the innings and hit 10 fours and five sixes in his superb hundred which showcased an ability to play all kinds of strokes.

He took 14 from one Sandeep Sharma over and then 18 from the next, bowled by Vikas Mishra.

Earlier, India made a terrific start as Chand and Chopra combined for a 139-run partnership for the first wicket. Chand asserted his dominance from the start, cover driving Bowie for four in the first over.

And the runs continued to flow, with the openers hitting 10 fours from a 26-ball period between the fifth over and the ninth.
