Praveen Kumar Registers First Hat-trick of 2010

Bengaluru: When Royal Challengers Bangalore conceded more than 200 runs in their last match against KXIP, skipper Anil Kumble had promised to put up a better bowling performance in the coming matches. And true to his word, the leggie, along with Praveen Kumar, made sure that Rajasthan Royals were pushed to the corner.

Praveen Kumar went onto to take IPL 2010’s first hat-trick with a fiery display of bowling. The UP lad took the wickets of Damien Martyn (19), Sumit Narwal (0) and Paras Dogra (3) in the 17th over of the first innings to join the elite club of IPL hat-trick getters.

He bowled a near perfect yorker to Damien Martyn to see his back. The right armer then spoiled the IPL debut of Narwal by getting him caught at fine leg. The moment of glory came when he clean bowled the in-form man Paras Dogra.

Praveen Kumar, who has been with RCB for the past two years, has never been in the limelight despite leading the attack for Kumble’s men.  However, this year it seems the man has come of age. On a pitch that saw over 200 runs target being chased just a couple of days ago, Kumar’s hat-trick was a testimony of the fact that bowlers just need to stick to their line and length to yield results.

He finished his spell with figures of 4-18-0-3. But he couldn’t keep his captain too far behind of him as the Kumble gave away just 9 runs in his quota of four overs and claimed the prized wicket of Michael Lumb.

Just a day before Shane Warne had spoken highly about Kumble, to leave the latter blushing at his book launch function. The Bangalorean didn’t take that admiration into consideration and clean bowled Warne in the 20th over.
