Raina Maiden Ton Guides India Entered Super 8

St Lucia: Suresh Raina smashed a century off 59 balls to power India to 186/5 in their Twenty20 World Cup clash against South Africa in St Lucia on Sunday.

Raina became only the third batsman, after Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum, to hit a hundred in Twenty20 Internationals and he reached the landmark with a six over mid-wicket.

Raina's 101-run knock came off 60 balls and was studded with 5 sixes and 9 fours.

Raina, who arrived at the crease in the very first over of the match after the dismissal of Murali Vijay, adjusted brilliantly to the bounce and pace of the wicket and reached his century in the last over of the Indian innings and was dismissed next ball while going for another big hit.

Put in to bat, India got off to a poor start as Rory Kleinveldt had opener Vijay (0) caught behind by Mark Boucher on the second ball of the match.

India then lost their second wicket in the sixth over when Jacques Kallis had Dinesh Karthik (16) caught by Graeme Smith at mid-on.

But Yuvraj Singh and Raina revived India with a 88-run partnership for the third wicket.

Yuvraj hit 2 sixes and 3 fours in his 30-ball 37 before Kleinveldt had him caught by Graeme Smith at mid-on.

Yusuf Pathan, who was peppered with short-pitched bowling, hit a six in his a 7-ball 11 and Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni finished the Indian innings with a six scoring 16 off 6 balls.
