SA Elect to Bat Against India in Final ODI

Ahmedabad: South African captain Jacques Kallis won the toss and elected to bat against India in the third and final ODI at Sardar Patel stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

The home team will be without more than half a dozen key players in the dead rubber, some missing from action from the start of the series and others - including champion batsman Sachin Tendulkar skipping the tie.

Tendulkar, in particular, will be missed after his awe-inspiring and phenomenal knock of 200 not out at Gwalior that shattered the Proteas dreams of winning a One-day series in India for the first time ever.

Tendulkar's absence, the back problem to Virender Sehwag and the wrist injury to Gautam Gambhir, have necessitated the inclusion of the uncapped Murali Vijay of Tamil Nadu to open the batting with his state-mate Dinesh Karthik.

M Vijay and Abhimanyu Mithun are making their ODI debuts for India. Rohit Sharma comes back. Ashish Nehra is rested. Apart from Nehra, Amit Mishra and R Ashwin miss out from the Indian XIV. Hang on for team news on South Africa: we know they are playing two spinners, and not much else.

Both the captains have commented on the dryness of the wicket. Spin and reverse-swing will be in. Sunil Gavaskar sees 600 runs in the day.

India are looking for a first clean sweep over South Africa. South Africa are looking for a consolation win after the pasting in Gwalior. They can breathe easy, there is neither Sachin Tendulkar nor Virender Sehwag to deal with today. This is also the last ODI before the two teams get into Twenty20 mode: first the IPL, then the World Twenty20.
