Somerset v South Australia, Champions League T20 2011, Bangalore

Somerset Aim to Keep Momentum Against Redbacks

Bangalore: When Somerset take on the South Australian Redbacks at the Chinnawamy Stadium on Saturday evening in the first of the day's two CLT20 matches, any diehards present in the stands, will struggle to identify who's who.

But there will be at least two familiar figures, both of whom are characters in their own right while plying the same trade.

For sure there will be some support for Murali Kartik, the forgotten left-arm spinner of Indian cricket, as also for Roelof van der Merwe, the man who till last season turned up in Royal Challengers Bangalore colours.

Merwe's biggest supporter in the RCB camp was Anil Kumble, who perhaps, saw a lot of his own never-say-die attitude in the South African. Also, in this format at least, Merwe is a better bat than the Indian star.

The English County team is unbeaten as yet in the tournament, having won both their games in the qualifiers as well as the lone one in the main draw. The Redbacks, on the other hand, have had mixed luck, with one win and one loss.

Kieswetter and Buttler should walk back into the Somerset line-up, and the out-of-form Chris Jones and Nick Compton are the most likely to miss out. South Australia looked a complete side during their victory against KKR, and won't want to meddle with that combination. They will, however, toy with the idea of giving Tait another go.
