Steve Waugh May Coach Kochi IPL Team

New Delhi: Former Australian captain Steve Waugh is among those being considered to coach the Kochi team which will make its Indian Premier League debut next year, franchise co-owner Vivek Venugopal said on Monday.

"We have been in discussion with a lot of really good coaches and Steve Waugh is one among them. The discussions are continuing ... it will take some time before we finalise the name," Venugopal told reporters here.

"We are talking to both Indian and international coaches. We do not have a biased view towards one or the other. There are some good Indian and International coaches," he said, adding that "we have to see their time commitment, how free they are, how much time they can contribute to the team".

On the composition of the team, he said, "I think it will take some more time to decide on it. But the main chunk of them will come from players' auction and that will only happen towards the end of the year," Venugopal said.

Asked whether the franchise was looking for a second home venue other than Kochi, he said, "There will not be too many venues. It will be mainly Kochi and may be in future in Thiruvananthapuram, if there is a stadium."

"We are working on the name and other things like logo, colour of the Jersey. None of them has been finalised. We are still discussing and they will come out soon," he said.

Rendezvous Sports World, a consortium of companies, had won the bid for the Kochi franchise of the IPL in March.
