Pathan Helps Rajasthan Royals Beat Delhi Daredevils by 5-wickets

Centurion: Shane Warne and Graeme Smith are thinking men. And Yusuf Pathan is an extraordinary hitter of the cricket ball. These facts were on
display in a cracker of a contest in which Team Jaipur bested Team Delhi by five wickets at the Centurion on Tuesday (April 28).

Chasing 144 to win, Jaipur were home with nine balls to spare. In the end, Warne won and Virender Sehwag lost because it was the thought put in and not just plain action that delivered the required result.

Pathan’s unbeaten 62 (30b, 3x4, 6x6) which was the decisive influence on the match.

In fact, his knock might just go down as the innings of the event. There was immense strength that he showed in his strokes, treating the speedsters and the spinners alike.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals restricted Delhi Daredevils to 143 for seven in 20 overs.

Captain Shane Warne, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Munaf Patel took 2 wickets each as only AB de Villiers 50 (40b, 5x4, 1x6) hit a fighting half-century to lend some respectability to the Delhi total.

de Villiers added 56 runs with New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori. de Villiers was unlucky to be adjudged out leg before wicket as the Warne delivery was pitched outside leg-stump.

Vettori hit 3 fours in his 28-ball 29, before he was clean bowled by a Munaf yorker.

Rajasthan Royals reduced Delhi Daredevils to 66/4 in 10 overs time out.

Batting first after winning the toss, Delhi got off to a poor start as Gautam Gambhir (8) edged a Mascarenhas delivery to wide slip where Shane Warne dived to his left to take a good catch.

Mascarenhas struck again in the same over as three deliveries later, Virender Sehwag (16) hit across the line for Kamran Khan to take a well-judged catch at mid-on.

Munaf Patel struck in his first over when Tillakaratne Dilshan (7) mistimed a pull over square leg where Swapnil Asnodkar ran back to take the catch.

Warne too struck in his first over as Dinesh Karthik (4) came forward to defend, turned the face of the bat too early for a leading edge and Warne took a simple return catch

Brief Score: Rajasthan Royals 147/5 (Pathan 61*, Smith 44*, Mishra 3-34) beat Delhi Daredevils 143/7 (de Villiers 50, Vettori 29, Munaf 2-14, Mascarenhas 2-28) by five wickets.
