Zimbabwe v Bangladesh, 3rd ODI, Bulawayo

Zimbabwe Beat Bangladesh by 69-runs, Alive Their Hopes

Bulawayo: A century from Hamilton Masakadza helped Zimbabwe secure a 69-run victory over Bangladesh to keep alive their hopes in the five-match one-day international series in Bulawayo.

The tourists quickly sank to 39 for four in reply before 78 from Raqibul Hasan helped steady the innings.

Mahbubul Alam also chipped in with 59 down the batting order but a winning total of 324 rarely looked possible with Bangladesh eventually skittled out for 254.

Tawanda Mupariwa and Ray Price each claimed three wickets for Zimbabwe, who now trail 2-1 in the series.

Earlier, Masakadza smashed four boundaries and two sixes to score 102 from 112 balls in his 71st ODI. He once was the youngest centurion on Test debut after scoring 119 as a 17-year-old schoolboy against West Indies in Harare in 2001.

Masakadza put on 142 for the fourth wicket with Taylor before playing across to be bowled by spinner Enamul Haque. Zimbabwe had gone from 60-3 in the 12th over to 202/4 in the 39th at Queens Sports Club.

Taylor, a batsman-wicketkeeper, and Elton Chigumbura then put on 90 in just 50-balls. Taylor, who was dropped in the deep by Haque on 57, was run out in the 48th over.

Chigumbura, who reached his half-century off just 26 balls, ended up 61 not out after hitting three boundaries and five sixes.

Zimbabwe had earlier lost its first wicket in the second over when Vusi Sibanda, playing for the first time in the series, edged an out-swinger from Alam Mahbubul and was caught by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck.

Opener Mark Vermeuelen went next, mis-hitting a drive to be caught in the covers by Mahmudullah off Mahbubul on 11.

Charles Coventry was run out on 22. Stuart Matsikenyeri added 23 off nine balls before Shakib Al Hasan removed him and Malcolm Waller (2) as the last two wickets.

Man of the Match Chigumbura said - "It was a good innings. The guys upfront did a good job to help me come in and play my game. We have to do well on Sunday to level the series."

Brief Score: Zimbabwe 323 for 7 (Masakadza 102, Taylor 94, Chigumbura 61*) beat Bangladesh 254 (Raqibul 78, Mahbubul 59, Mupariwa 3-32, Price 3-34) by 69 runs.
