Sunrisers v Knight Riders, IPL 7, Hyderabad

Kolkata Beat Sunrisers, Closer to Playoffs

Hyderabad: Yusuf Pathan (39*) and Ryan ten Doeschat (25) added an unbroken 42 as Kolkata chased down 142 with 2 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand in match no. 43 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Sunday.

The win helped KKR retain their 4th spot. As a result of this win, KKR now have 12 points from 11 matches and are placed third on the points table. SRH, on the other hand, currently occupy the sixth spot with eight points to show for their 11 outings.

Chasing a modest 143-run target, the visitors were aided by helpful hands from Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan and Ryan ten Doeschate.

KKR lost Gautam Gambhir (6) early; the left-handed opener was caught behind the wicket off Steyn. However, Robin Uthappa continued his good run in Pepsi IPL 2014. In the company of Manish Pandey, Uthappa (40) added 51 runs, before he was run-out by Sammy.

The hard-hitting Yusuf Pathan then took guard opposite Pandey. The third-wicket pair steadied the run-chase and even struck routine boundaries to deflate the SRH bowlers’ confidence. Pandey (35) was eventually dismissed by Karn Sharma, leaving KKR on 104 for three in 15.2 overs.

SRH after opted to bat, Umesh Yadav (3-26) and Shakib Al Hasan (2-22) bowled brilliantly as Kolkata Knight Riders restricted hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad to 142 for 8.

Aaron Finch (8) bad run with the bat continued as he departed in the second over of the match bowled by Yadav.

Shikhar Dhawan, who SRH removed from the captaincy role ahead of the match so as to allow him to focus on his batting, started off well but after scoring 19 he came up with a badly-executed sweep shot off Sunil Narine to give away his wicket. Gautam Gambhir took a simple catch at short fine leg.

Naman Ojha, who retained his No.3 spot in view of his brilliant 79 against Kings XI Punjab in the last match, hit two straight sixes off Ryan ten Doeschate and Shakib but, on 22, hit straight into the hands of Yusuf Pathan at backward point off the bowling of Shakib.

At 63 for 3 in 8.3 overs, Lokesh Rahul joined David Warner and both added 34 runs but the duo departed in quick succession to leave SRH in the lurch at 104 for 5 in the 14th over. Rahul (14) fell lbw to Piyush Chawla, while Warner, who was looking in ominous touch, pulled Yadav into the hands of Yusuf for 34 off 18 balls.

Sammy, who took the reins from Dhawan for the rest of the season, had an awful stay at the crease and Shakib put him out of his misery as the West Indian picked out Manish Pandey at long-off after scoring 7 off 16 balls.

SRH failed to score quick runs in the death overs and if it were not for Irfan Pathan's 23* off 19 balls, things would have been worse for the hosts. In last 10 overs, SRH made just 65.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and have opted to bat.

Darren Sammy lead Sunrisers instead of Shikhar Dhawan for the rest of the season.

One change for Sunrisers Hyderabad -- captain Sammy is in for Moises Henriques while KKR are unchanged
