India Win But Out of Contention

Colombo: India clinched a nail-biter, with South Africa falling 1 run short of India's total of 152. India failed to make it to the final four as a result of low run rate, while Pakistan and Australia qualified for Semi-final.

India were knocked out of World Twenty20 in Super Eight stage even after beating South Africa by a run as Pakistan booked their place in semifinals with a better net run-rate.

India's fate was already sealed when South Africa crossed 121 runs.

Morkel brothers (Albie and Morne) hits a Six each on Balaji but he struck very next and give India victory.

Zaheer Khan struck twice in the eighteenth over to dismiss Robin Peterson (10) and Farhaan Behardien (13) but it was too late for India.

India had to restrict South Africa for 121 or less to qualify for the semifinals.

Pacer L Balaji struck soon to get rid of JP Duminy (16) after Yuvraj's breakthrough to reduce South Africa to 107/5 in 15 overs.

Faf du Plessis played a gem of an innings of 65 off 38 balls to lead South Africa run chase before becoming the second victim of Yuvraj Singh (2-23).

Faf du Plessis completed his fifty off just 29 balls as he added crucial 49-run for the fourth wicket with Duminy to give momentum to the run chase. Faf smacked two sixes and six boundaries in his rapid 38 balls innings.

Chasing 153-run target, South Africa lost three wickets in quick succession early in their innings before Faf hit couple of sixes and three fours to revive the chase.

Left-armer Yuvraj Singh struck with his first ball to dismiss AB de Villiers as SA are reduced to 46/3 in 6.1 overs.

South Africa lost Jacques Kallis (6) and Hashim Amla (0) inside 4 overs as India started their defence in right track.

All-rounder Irfan Pathan dismissed Kallis in the fourth over to reduce the Proteas to 16/2 in 3.3 overs after Zaheer Khan struck in the first over to give SA early jolt as he dismissed Amla for nought.

Earlier, Late charge by Suresh Raina (45 off 34 balls) and MS Dhoni (23* off 13 balls) helped India post 152/6 against South Africa in their must win final tie.

Raina got run out in the final ball while trying to sneak second run after he added 40 runs with skipper Dhoni for the sixth wicket in the final four overs.

India lost Rohit Sharma (25) after he put on 44-run stand for the fifth wicket with Suresh Raina to revive their innings after they were reduced to 68/4 in 10 overs.

Spinner Robin Peterson trapped Sharma leg before in the sixteenth over as India are reduced to 112/5 in 16 overs. Rohit hit just two boundaries in his slow 27-ball knock.

Twin-strike by pacer Morne Morkel helped South Africa reduce India to 68/4 in 10 overs.

Morkel struck in the tenth over to dismiss Yuvraj Singh (21) after India started their must win encounter on wrong foot losing their top-three batsmen inside Powerplay overs.

Yuvraj hit couple of maximums and a four in his 15-ball innings before Morkel clean bowled the southpaw.

Spinner Robin Peterson dismissed Virender Sehwag (17) in the sixth over to reduce India to 36/3 in 5.3 overs. Sehwag was clean bowled after hitting the previous ball for a huge six.

Jacques Kallis added more misery to India when he removed the in-form Virat Kohli (2), a rare failure for the youngster, soon after Morne Morkel gave the Proteas an early breakthrough in the previous over.

Morkel dismissed Gautam Gambhir in the fourth over as India started terribly in the crucial match.
