World Cup 2015 Qualifiers

Baressi, Borren Take Netherlands to Easy Win

Mount Maunganui: Fifties from Wesley Barresi and Peter Borren ensured Netherlands began their World Cup 2015 qualifiers campaign with a victory, as they downed Uganda by seven wickets at Mount Maunganui on Monday.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bat first, with the openers putting on a healthy stand of 76.

Barresi remained unbeaten on 61 off 70 balls while Borren was dismissed only in the 29th over for 50, with Netherlands needing a mere six runs for victory at that stage. Faruk Ochimi and Davis Arinaiwe made early inroads dismissing openers Stephan Myburg and Michael Swart inside the 14th over, but the remaining bowlers failed to capitalize on the situation as the Netherlands cruised to its target in the 31st over.

Earlier, Uganda got off to a good start after choosing to bat, with Roger Mukasa and Abram Mutyagaba putting together an opening stand of 76 in 16.5 overs. Mukasa struck six fours in his 56-ball innings of 44 before being trapped leg before by Swart. Left-arm spinner Michael Rippon provided a breakthrough six overs later dismissing Hamza Saleh for six. Saleh's wicket started the downfall for the African side as Swart and Rippon ran through the Ugandan top-order reducing it to 115 for 5 in 31.3 overs.

Medium-pacer Mudassar Bukhari joined the party in the 39th over bagging two wickets, as the African side was eventually dismissed for 151, with only four batsmen managing to reach double figure scores.

Rippon was the pick of the Dutch bowlers, returning figures of 4 for 15 in his 10 overs.
