Broad Becomes Fourth Bowler to Take Two Test Hat-tricks

Leeds: Stuart Broad became the fourth bowler to take two hat-tricks on Friday during the opening day of the second and last Test between Sri Lanka and England.

The England fast bowler first had the in-form Kumar Sangakkara caught at gulley by Ian Bell for 79 off the last ball of the 63rd over. He then removed Dinesh Chandimal and Shaminda Eranga off the first two balls of his next over - the 65th over of the innings.

With his second hat-trick, Broad joined the league of Hugh Tremble (Australia), Jimmy Mathews (Australia) and Wasim Akram (Pakistan). Broad's previous hat-trick came against India at Trent Bridge in 2011.

Thanks to Broad's hat-trick and Liam Plunkett's 5 for 64, the hosts, after electing to field, bowled out the Sri Lankans for 257. Plunkett made it back to England's Test team after seven years in the first encounter at Lord's earlier this month.
