Delhi Clinch Last-ball Thriller, Despite Rahane's Fight

New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils bowlers hold the nerve in the last two overs to inflict a one run defeat on Rajasthan Royals in IPL 5 match at Ferozeshah Kotla stadium in Delhi.

Chasing 153-run target, Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid shared 99-run opening stand to put Rajasthan Royals on top against Delhi Daredevils in their IPL 5 match at Ferozeshah Kotla stadium in Delhi.

Irfan Pathan finally struck in the 14th over for Delhi when he got rid of Rajasthan skipper Dravid after solid opening stand by Royals opener. Rahane's dream run continued, slamming another fifty to lead Rajasthan's chase.

Dravid and Rahane started off well against Delhi, adding 50 runs off 46 balls to set the tone for Rajasthan in their must-win game.

Earlier, Virender Sehwag's (63 off 39 balls) and Yogesh Nagar's (27 off 20 balls) helped Delhi Daredevils set a competitive 153-run target for Rajasthan Royals.

Rajasthan leaked 20 runs in the last over as Nagar hammered two sixes and two fours to guide Delhi to fighting total. Irfan Pathan smacked the boundary on the final delivery to take Daredevils past 150 runs.

Virender Sehwag again played a cracker of an innings, slamming slammed fourth fifty in a row. Viru's swashbuckling knock was studded with eight fours and two huge sixes. Brad Hogg got rid of the explosive batsman to halt Delhi's run charge.

Royals made a brief comeback in the halfway stage by sending Sehwag, Taylor and Naman Ojha back to the pavilion in quick time to reduce Delhi to 125/5 in 18 overs.

Sehwag also shared 80 runs stand for the third wicket with Ross Taylor to put Delhi on top. Delhi Daredevils suffered early blows as they lost Mahela Jayawardene and Kevin Pietersen in quick succession.

Ross Taylor, who yet to fire in the competition, failed to grab the opportunity set by his skipper.

Virender Sehwag continued his dream run in the tournament, taking Delhi past 50 runs in the 7th over after losing two wickets early.

Pankaj Singh struck to give Rajasthan first wicket by dismissing Jayawardene. In the next over, Delhi lost Pietersen when he edged through to Rahul Dravid in the slips off Ankeet Chavan.

Earlier, Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag won the toss and opted to bat against Rajasthan in the 39th match of the tournament.

Delhi decided to retain the same playing eleven that thrashed Mumbai Indians on Friday. Rajasthan made three changes to their side. They have left out Stuart Binny, Siddharth Trivedi and Ajit Chandila, replacing them with Ashok Menaria, Ankeet Chavan and Amit Singh.
