Faf du Plessis Take Chennai Home in Last Ball Thriller

Chennai: The game went to the wire as Stuart Binny bowled a good last over, but failed to stop Dhoni from leading his side to victory. Faf du Plessis (73 off 52) was the key for Chennai against Rajasthan in their IPL 5 match at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Du Plessis notched up 34-ball fifty, hammering six fours and a six before going back to the pavilion.

Du Plessis added 61-run stand with Suresh Raina (26) for the second wicket, but Chennai stuttered as they lost Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina in quick succession.

Brad Hogg struck to give Rajasthan Royals crucial breakthrough after Chennai got off to blistering chase.

Subramaniam Badrinath looked to go over the extra-cover, but missed it as Shreevats Goswami made the brilliant work of his gloves to stump the batsman. Chasing 147-run target, Du Plessis and Badrinath shared 55-run opening stand.

Runs were flowing easily for Chennai as they scored 45 runs in the first six overs of the mandatory powerplay. Du Plessis led the innings single-handedly with hitting the boundaries all over the park.

Earlier, Owais Shah led from the front as he slammed 52 runs to take Rajasthan Royals to 146/4 against Chennai Super Kings.

Nuwan Kulasekara bowled the last over exceptionally well, conceding only 4 runs and removing Shah on the final delivery to restrict Royals' total inside 150 runs.

Shah and Ashok Menaria stitched a 92-run stand in 65 balls for the third wicket to boost Rajasthan Royals in their IPL match. Menaria also played handy knock of 36 runs, smashing two fours and a six.

The pair reached their half-century stand in 41 balls and took Rajasthan past 100-run mark in the 15th over which turned the momentum in Royals way as they smashed 22 runs.

Rajasthan Royals suffered the loss of Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid in quick succession. Shadab Jakati gave Royals second blow when he got rid of Dravid in the 8th over to reduce Rajasthan to 50/2 in 8 overs.

Dravid made patient 26 off 28 balls. Rajasthan lost Ajinkya Rahane after putting up a solid opening stand against the hosts.

Dravid and Rahane gave Rajasthan good start with 36-run stand in 4.4 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin struck in his first over to end Rahane's 15 runs knock off 10 balls with the help of three fours.

Earlier, Rajasthan skipper Rahul Dravid won the toss and decided to bat against Chennai Super Kings in the 26th match of the tournament.

Rajasthan made few changes to their side that defeated Deccan Chargers. Kevon Cooper is making his come back after suffering an injury as he replaced Johan Botha. Stuart Binny and Sreevats Goswami are also included in place of Pankaj Singh and Dishant Yagnik.

Chennai decided to retain the same playing eleven that registered 13-run win over Pune Warriors on Thursday.
