India v England, only Twenty20, Kolkata

KP and Finn Helps England in First Win in Tour

Kolkata: Kevin Pietersen scored a fluent half century to guide England to a six-wicket victory against India in the one-off Twenty20 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Kevin Pietersen returned from injury to guide England to a six-wicket Twenty20 victory over India and end the team's losing run in the tour's last match.

The former captain missed Tuesday's fifth one-day international with a fractured thumb but was passed fit.

Pietersen was dropped on one but went on to hammer 53 from 39 balls, including a huge switch-hit six.

England opener Craig Kieswetter fell early trying to go for a big shot off Ravindra Jadeja.

After electing to bat, skipper MS Dhoni's cameo at the end took India to a decent score of 120 for 9.

When it seemed India was going well, England took three quick wickets in the form of Tiwary, Raina and Jadeja.

The partnership between Raina and Tiwary was building on when Samit Patel broke the stand by removing Tiwary. Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja fell in quick succession to put India on a defensive mode.

Before that, in-form Virat Kohli while trying to give impetus went for a big shot off Tim Bresnan and played straight into the hands of Alex Hales.

After electing to bat, India were put on backfoot by England as they dismissed the openers early and choked the hosts for runs.

First to fall was Ajinkya Rahane when he edged one to the wicketkeeper, who dived to his right to take a brilliant catch. Robin Uthappa got a chance to open for India but failed to impress.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat on Saturday.

India have Robin Uthappa back into the line-up in place of Gautam Gambhir while Yusuf Pathan, too, has been picked, leaving out Varun Aaron.

India also named local lad and Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary for his home match.

The good news for England is Kevin Pietersen, who had missed the fifth and final ODI after fracturing his left thumb, cleared the fitness test to be named in the playing XI.
